Kamome (word for seagull in Japanese) is a collab IPA with Banks Brewing in Victoria, Australia. It has been such a pleasure to work with an amazing brewery outside of Japan.

When we were conceptualizing the collab beer brewed at each location, we talked about featuring a bird that is significant to Seaford Victoria where Banks Brewing is located.
As it sounded like a lot of pain to deal with the Seagulls, the way Chris from Banks Brewing talked about it was funny hence the name “About the Seagulls” was given to the collab beer brewed at Banks Brewing.

At Inkhorn Brewing for Kamome, we kept the malt bill similar—mostly light colored base malt plus a little bit of Spelt malt added (which is how most of clear IPAs are brewed at Inkhorn).
We were going for a punchy West Coast style IPA at both locations, and I believe we achieved the goal. Kamome drinks light but has enough body and oily slick to sustain the strong mango, grapefruit, and piney flavors.

It does not seem like a 7.5% abv beer at first but then you’ll feel it most of the way through your pint glass.

It’s one of the beers featured at the Hops on OZ event taking place on July 22-23 at various places in Tokyo.
